(set a) Critical thinking

  • Critical thinking means gradually breaking the habit of depending on others for you to know what is true. It means learning to rely on yourself to know what is true.

  • Plato wrote about each person being chained inside a cave, watching a parade of false images of reality until we make the effort to break out.

  • Critical thinking gives us the tools we need to escape such illusions as we struggle to develop our own understandings and imagination.

  • This critical understanding is the most wonderful, most enlightening game we could possibly play — learning for ourselves what is real, and then being able to pass our wisdom and imaginations on to others, helping them out of their goldfish bowls.

  • Welcome to the magical, empowering, exhilarating world of Critical Thinking!

The Truth about Violence
These statements apply to war as well as to domestic violence.
“The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it.” “Through violence you may murder the liar, but you cannot murder the lie, nor establish the truth.” “Through violence you murder the hater, but you do not murder hate. In fact, violence merely increases hate.” “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” ~~All quotes from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
