“I used to think that the more hours I work, the more productive I’d be, and the better I’d do in school. I used to spend up to eight hours of studying each day, thinking that this was the only way I’d be able to learn the material. I recently learned over the last year that I can accomplish more work with more rest. Initially I thought this was insane! My whole life I spent hours studying for school to receive A’s in my classes. However, in college I either didn’t get the grade I was striving to get, or I ended up feeling miserable spending every day trying to study.
“In one of my courses in college, my teacher Richard Leon Linfield presented a theory for being more productive: spend less time on school and more time on leisure activities. I had to give it a shot.
“What I had to do was set aside three hours of my day for school after class. I separated those three hours into six units, thirty minutes long per unit. I took away any type of distraction, such as my phone, friends, or family during those hours.
“The purpose of setting aside three hours of my day to focus on homework is to free up the rest of my day, when I can focus on growing physically, spiritually, and emotionally. By having a dedicated time each day to focus on school, I have more time to read for fun, work out, build relationships with family and friends, work, shadow, and put time into any hobbies I have a desire to pursue.
“From my past study habits, I felt like I never had enough time in the day to get everything done. I felt more stressed about school and my grades, but after changing my study habits, I achieved higher goals than I could have ever imagined.
“I highly recommend to everyone to set aside three hours of your day for complete focused work with no distractions. This has allowed me to be more productive in school while being able to relax more. I’ve been able to manage more classes ever since I was taught this method while maintaining A’s in all my courses.”
